Action Verb Hunt & PowerPoint
State Standard/Common Core
Standard 3: 32. Use knowledge of parts of speech: selecting and using verbs in past and present tenses in writing.
Introduction
Hello, Boys and Girls! Today we will be learning about action verbs. We will be searching for action verbs in writing. Have you ever wondered what an action verb was? I'm sure you have! Let's find out!
Schoolhouse Rock Verbs
Task
As a class, we will learn about action verbs. Annie and Moby will tell us what action verbs are and give us examples of them. Using the links provided, your group will explore and identify action verbs. Your group will locate action verbs in a poem. Each member in your group will take three of the verbs they located, and write sentences with them. Each member of the group will be responsible for creating a slide in the power point for each of their sentences. Each group will present their power point to the class.
Resources
Promethean Board to watch the BrainPop video and play Catch It and Verb Quia.
Student computers to play games and create the PowerPoint.
Internet to play games and videos.
Proccess
1. Watch the video to learn more about verbs: BrainPop Jr Verbs
2. Play the game to catch the falling verbs: Catch It!
3. Play the Quia game to locate the verb in each sentence: Verb Quia
4. Read and discuss the verb poem with your group. Highlight each verb in the poem. Action Verb Poem
5. Each group member takes 3 verbs and write sentences using each verb.
6. Create a PowerPoint. Each group member will make a slide for each sentence. Each slide should contain the sentence and a picture that goes along with the sentence.
7. Each group will present their Action Verb PowerPoint to the class.
